URL Slug Generator
Generate clean, SEO-friendly URL slugs from any text. Handles accented characters, removes special symbols, customizable separator and length. Free, client-side.
How it works
The slug generator converts your input text into a URL-safe string by: normalizing Unicode characters to strip accents (e.g., e becomes e, u becomes u), converting to lowercase, replacing spaces and special characters with hyphens, and removing everything that is not a letter, number, or separator. The result is a clean, readable slug suitable for URLs, file names, and database identifiers.
Best practices for URL slugs
- Keep it short. Aim for 3-5 words. Shorter URLs are easier to read, share, and remember.
- Use keywords. Include the primary keyword for the page. Avoid filler words like "the", "and", "a".
- Use hyphens, not underscores. Google treats hyphens as word separators. Underscores join words.
- Lowercase only. URLs are case-sensitive on most servers. Consistent lowercase avoids duplicate content issues.
- No special characters. Stick to letters, numbers, and hyphens. Everything else should be removed or transliterated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data sent to a server? No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What happens to accented characters? Accented characters are transliterated to their ASCII equivalents. For example, "cafe" becomes "cafe", "uber" becomes "uber", and "Creme Brulee" becomes "creme-brulee".
